Because there are several notable entities, books, and media series titled Beyond the Code, I will focus primarily on the most widely recognized one: the early-literacy children’s educational workbook series. The Literacy Workbook Series

Published by EPS Learning (formerly Educators Publishing Service), Beyond the Code is a popular four-book foundational reading series. It is designed for young readers aged 7 to 9 (typically 2nd to 3rd grade).

The Core Purpose: While most early phonic programs teach children how to sound out words, this series focuses heavily on reading comprehension and critical thinking. It helps young learners transition from simply decoding text to actually understanding what they read.

The Connection to “Explode the Code”: It serves as an official companion to the highly popular Explode the Code phonics curriculum. It uses the exact same phonetic rules and vocabulary structures, giving kids a highly predictable and comfortable reading environment.

Lesson Structure: Each book contains beautifully illustrated short stories. Every story is paired with vocabulary activities, blending exercises, tracking tools, and basic sentence-writing prompts.

Independent Work: The instructions are written directly to the child. This design allows homeschooling parents and teachers to let students complete the worksheets independently.
