To install LiteStep themes using the Open Theme Standard (OTS1 or OTS2), you must use a compatible Theme Installer module or place the files directly into your core LiteStep directory. OTS2 introduced automated installation and separate personal configuration directories, while OTS1 typically requires manual utility execution. Prerequisites

Before installing a theme, ensure the core LiteStep Shell Installer is already successfully running as your primary Windows desktop interface. Option 1: Automated Installation (OTS2 Themes)

OTS2 themes utilize the standard .lsz (LiteStep Zip) extension or come as fully structured .zip archives.

Rename the Extension: If your downloaded OTS2 theme is saved as a .zip archive, rename the file extension from .zip to .lsz.

Execute the File: Double-click the .lsz file directly from Windows Explorer.

Confirm with Theme Installer: The integrated LiteStep Theme Installer GUI will pop up. Click Install and wait for the extraction to finish.

Load the Theme: Right-click your desktop background to pull up the main LiteStep pop-up menu. Navigate to LiteStepChange Theme and choose your newly installed theme. Option 2: Manual / Refresh Installation (OTS2 Themes)

If double-clicking fails to invoke the automatic installer engine, you can seed the folder manually:

Extract Archive: Unpack the theme contents using an archive manager like WinRAR or 7-Zip.

Move to Directory: Cut and paste the extracted theme folder into your main LiteStep configuration path:C:\LiteStep\Themes</code>

Re-index the Engine: Right-click on your desktop, navigate to Change Theme, and select Refresh List.

Activate: Select the new theme name from the menu to switch environments. Option 3: Manual Installation (OTS1 Themes)

Older OTS1 environments lack automated extension processing and require specific utility handling.

Open Installer Tool: Navigate to your primary C:\LiteStep</code> folder and launch the standalone executable named ThemeInstaller.exe (or use the installer utility command via your active shell menu).

Source the Archive: Click the source path field inside the GUI and point it directly to your raw downloaded OTS1 .zip file.

Extract Targets: Choose your theme directory target and execute the installation.

Update Main Rules: Because OTS1 reads central parameters differently, verify your root configuration file at C:\LiteStep\step.rc is pointing to the right theme execution files if it doesn’t automatically shift.

Recycle Shell: Use the context menu or press your designated hotkey to Recycle (restart) the LiteStep desktop process to save your changes. litestep-/docs/manual.txt at master - GitHub
